Das Tanz & Folk Festival Berlin -TFFB - ist ein mehrtägiges Festivals für Folk (basierend auf europäischer traditioneller Musik) und BalFolk (hierzulande auch 'Folkstanz' genannt), mit Bands aus unterschiedlichen europäischen Ländern. Nach erfolgreicher Premiere im Mai 2017 findet das Festival seit 2018 jährlich im Februar statt. Zentraler Veranstaltungsort ist die WABE in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg - ein Ort, der sich seit über 25 Jahren als Treffpunkt für Tanz und Folk Enthusiasten etabliert hat.
Mit der Orientierung auf 'europäische' Folk-Musik und Tanz fokussiert das Festival einen Bereich, der trotz kultureller Vielfalt in Berlin völlig unterrepräsentiert ist. In Berlin wächst zudem aktuell das Interesse an BalFolk, Folk und traditioneller Musik, denn sowohl die Musik, als auch der Tanz sind leicht zu verstehen, und jeder kann nahezu spontan mitmachen. Vorkenntnisse, Alter, kultureller und sozialer Hintergrund spielen keine Rolle. Es geht darum, gemeinsam Spaß zu haben.
Gerade der Aspekt des 'Miteinanders', der der zunehmenden Anonymisierung und Isolation in urbanen Zentren entgegenwirkt, ist dem Festival besonders wichtig. Das TFFB schafft Raum für ganz unmittelbare Begegnung.
Das Festivals bemüht sich außerdem darum, die zum Teil sehr unterschiedlichen Balfolk-Szenen und Generationen von Tänzern und Musikern zusammenzuführen und bietet die Möglichkeit zum Austausch von Erfahrungen, Sichtweisen und Ansprüchen.
Die Einbeziehung Berliner Akteure in das Festival ist dabei natürlich eine Herzensangelegenheit.
Das TFFB läuft unter der Trägerschaft des Spreefolk e.V. und in Kooperation mit dem Kulturzentrum WABE.
Es ist ein not for profit Festival. Das Organisationsteam, zu dem Musiker und Tänzer aus der Berliner Szene gehören, engagiert sich ehrenamtlich.

The Dance & Folk Festival Berlin -TFFB - is a multi-day festival for folk music (based on European traditional music) and BalFolk (also called 'folk dance'), with bands from different European countries. After a successful premiere in May 2017, the festival has been held annually since 2018 in February. The central venue is the WABE in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg - a place that has established itself since more than 25 years as cultural homeland for dance and folk enthusiasts.
Focusing on 'European' folk music and dance, the festival represents an area that is barely covered in Berlin despite its cultural diversity. In addition, interest in BalFolk, folk and traditional music is growing in Berlin, as both music and dances are easy to understand, and everyone can join in almost spontaneously. Previous knowledge, age, cultural and social background are irrelevant. It's all about having fun together. Especially the aspect of 'togetherness', which counteracts the increasing anonymisation and isolation in urban areas, is especially important for the festival. The TFFB creates a community space for directly getting together.
The festival also seeks to bring together the very different Balfolk scenes and generations of dancers and musicians and offers the opportunity to share experiences, perspectives and aspirations.
Involvement of Berlin based bands, musicians and workshop leaders in the festival's line-up is a matter of heart.
The TFFB is run under the auspice of Spreefolk e.V. and in cooperation with the cultural centre WABE.
It is a non-profit festival. The organizing team, which includes musicians and dancers from the Berlin scene, are volunteers.
